Blazer Track Gearing Up For MIAC Championships

The Blazer Track and Field team continued to show their determination and skill by finishing in many of the top places in the events at the St. Olaf open this weekend. The Blazers have been proving themselves worthy of a possible top place finish at the MIAC championship meet March 7th and 8th.

First-Year Abby Neigebauer (Waseca, Minn. /Waseca H.S.) took third place in the 55 meter with a finishing time of 7.56 seconds. In the 600 meter, fellow first-year Jillian Daleidan (Blaine, Minn. /Blaine H.S.) took a second place finish with a final time of 1:39.49.
 In the distance events, senior Kristin Haubrich (Shakopee, Minn. /Shakopee H.S.) continues to dominate first place in the 3,000 meter with a time of 10:43.51. Sophomore Margot Branigan (Roseville, Minn. /Roseville H.S.) came close to breaking the school record in the 1000 meter and finished in third place with a time of 3:04.65, while senior Kaylee Rasmussen (Waconia, Minn. /Waconia) finished a couple seconds behind her teammate and finished fourth with a time of 3:06.67.

Sophomore Ali Galzki (Maple Grove, Minn. /Wayzata H.S.) jumped 5.05m giving her a third place finish in the long jump, while senior Gustie Garberich (Lake Lillian, Minn. /Bold H.S.) took second place in the triple jump with a jump with her furthest jump being 10.11m: 33-02.00.
 
“Overall we had good performances by many people” commented Coach Robin Balder-Lanoue. The Blazers continue action Mar 6th at their home track when Collegeville hosts the MIAC Pentathlon. The MIAC indoor championship meet starts Friday Mar 7th and Saturday Mar 8th at Saint John’s University.
