The College of Saint Benedict track and field team held their ground after the second and final day of the MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The team finished eighth overall, earning 48.5 points throughout the two-day competition. St. Thomas won the meet by over 100 points, followed by Gustavus and Bethel.
Sophomore Mary Schletty accumulated more MIAC Championship medals today, finishing near the top in both the triple and high jump. Schletty leaped 10.87 meters in the triple jump which placed her in seventh overall. She also cleared 1.59 meters in the high jump, tying for fourth place in the event.
CSB also collected a pair of fifth place finishes from sophomore Maggie Donahue and first-year Margot Branigan. Donahue competed in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, finishing with a time of 11:50.57. Branigan ran the 5,000 meter race and finished in 18:37.34, only 17 seconds behind the event champion.
Sophomore middle distance runner Jennifer Ranallo finished sixth in a very competitive 800 meter race with a time of 2:19.22. There was only a four second spread between the top six runners.
Senior Anne Redmon capped of her collegiate track and field career with a successful finish in the 400 meter. Redmon came out in seventh place in the event with a time of 60.41.
This meet concluded the 2007 outdoor track and field season. The Blazer squad performed well not only today but all season, and have a lot to look forward to next season.
