2001 Review

First-Year head coach Zach Remis and the CSB tennis team enjoyed a very successful regular season and rode that momentum into the MIAC Championships where they finished in fourth place.  Lone senior Katie Kaufman at #1 singles led the Blazer team to a 7-3 MIAC (8-6 overall) record.  Kaufman battled some of the best tennis players in the country all season at #1 singles and because of her determination and grace on the court was the recipient of the prestigious Chris Evert award.  This is the only award given out at the MIAC Championships.  Kaufman doubled up with Junior Chris Welle this season to make up the Blazer’s #1 doubles team.  Welle was very successful at #2 singles for CSB, earning Blazer Athlete of the Week for her weekly solid performances.

The Blazers saw a number of young talent emerge in sophomores Tessa Schommer, Katie Towne, and Laura Pavela.  First-Years Lyndsay Hoemberg and Heidi Waldschmidt led a solid recruiting class for the Blazers scoring many victories in both singles and doubles.  The season featured a spring break trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina where the Blazers picked up two wins.
