The 2005-2006 season proved to be very eventful for the Saint Benedict tennis team who recorded a 16-2 overall record and a 9-1 MIAC mark.
CSB got off to a great start by going on an eleven game winning streak where they proved to be a team to contend with in the MIAC.
The team's first loss came on March 18 against Luther College. Junior Megan Tiegs won her No. 1 singles match and was the only Blazer to win her competition against Luther.
Tiegs had a very impressive regular season going 17-1 in No. 1 singles play. Tiegs also competed on the Blazers No. 1 doubles team with sophomore Katie Ward. Together they compiled an impressive 14-4 record.
At the 2006 MIAC championships the Blazers received a first-round bye and played St. Catherine in the quarterfinals. CSB defeated St. Catherine 5-0. Saint Benedict would then advance to the semifinals agaisnt Carleton. CSB defeated Carleton earlier in the season 5-4 and was primed to get in the finals. The Knights defeated the Blazers 5-3, but CSB rebounded by winning the third place match against St. Thomas 5-1.
Saint Benedict was well represented on the All-MIAC tennis team. Tiegs was honored both as a No. 1 singles and a No. 1 doubles player. Ward also received dual honors as a No. 2 singles and a No. 1 doubles selection. Sophomores Linda Browne and Megan Wrobel were selected as a No. 3 and No. 6 singles players respectively.
CSB's head coach Janna LaFountaine was selected as the MIAC coach of the year.
Overall the Blazer tennis team had a great year and will be set for another season in which they hope to make the MIAC finals.
