Blazer Tennis Goes 1-1 against MIAC Foes

The College of Saint Benedict tennis team split a pair of MIAC matches in St. Paul Saturday, an 8-1 win over Bethel and 7-2 defeat against Macalester. The day puts the Blazer’s record at 14-7 overall with a 6-4 MIAC mark.

Against Bethel CSB took a commanding lead, sweeping all three doubles matches. Sophomore Christine Long (North Oaks, Minn./Mounds View) and senior Megan Wrobel (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) dusted Bethel’s number one doubles team 8-3. Senior Melissa Kampa (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral) and first-year Kylie Huether (Sioux Falls, S.D/ Washington) scored an 8-6 win number two doubles and seniors Beth Yokiel (Wells, Minn./United South) and senior Laura Wermager (St. Cloud, Minn./ Tech) scored an 8-4 victory.

The success continued into singles with the Blazers winning five of six matches. Wrobel rolled 6-2, 6-1 in first singles while Kampa posted a 6-3, 6-3 win in second singles. Huether won 6-2, 6-1 in fourth singles and Wermager picked up a 6-3, 6-1 decision. First-year Elissa Husby (Duluth, Minn./Marshall) took the sixth singles match 6-1, 6-3.

The Blazers could not match the success they enjoyed against Bethel when they faced Macalester.

Long and Huether won their second doubles match 8-6 while Husby won her sixth singles in a 6-4, 4-6, (10-7) battle.

As the MIAC regular season comes to a close the Blazers find themselves in a tie for fifth place in the conference with the top six teams advancing to next weekend’s conference tournament.
