The College of Saint Benedict tennis team battled to a 5-4 win over MIAC foe Carleton Friday at the CSB tennis courts. Six of the nine matches came down to deciding tie-breakers with the Blazers winning three.
CSB had to overcome a slow start, winning only one doubles match. The lone win came in the form of an 8-4 win from junior Christine Long (North Oaks, Minn./Mounds View) and sophomore Kylie Huether (Sioux Falls, S.D/Washington) in the number two doubles match.
Senior Melissa Kampa (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral) scratched out a 3-6, 6-2, (10-7) in her number two doubles match. Long picked up a 7-5, 6-7 (8-6), (10-4) win in her number singles match as the sun set while Huether cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win in her fourth singles match. First-year Elisa Husby (Duluth, Minn./Marshall) fought to a 6-4, 3-6, (10-4) win in her sixth singles match.
The win bumps the Blazers record up to 13-6 overall with 5-3 MIAC. CSB will return to the court tomorrow for a pair of matches in St. Paul, Minn. against Bethel and Macalester.
