The College of Saint Benedict tennis team opened up their 2008 spring campaign by rolling to a 7-2 team victory over NCAA Division II MSU-Moorhead. The Blazers dropped a pair of doubles matches but swept the singles portion of the match. CSB moves to 1-0 overall while MSU-Moorhead fall to 0-1.
CSB picked up their lone doubles win in the no. two match. Sophomore Christine Long (North Oaks, Minn./ Mounds View) and first-year Kylie Huether (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington) rolled to an 8-2 win.
After a slow start to the match CSB went on a tear winning all five singles matches. Senior Megan Wrobel took the no. one singles match 6-2, 6-3. Fellow senior Melissa Kampa (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral) battled to a 6-3, 6-4 win in the no. two singles match. Long cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win in third singles. Senior Laura Wermager (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) squeaked out a 3-6 7-5 (10-7) in the no. four singles. Huether picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win while first-year Elissa Husby (Duluth, Minn./ Marshall).
The Blazers will return to the court next Sunday, Feb. 17 at Gold’s Gym in Sartell, Minn. against MIAC foe Hamline.
