
2007-2008: Maria had a great summer training with her home club and joins the Blazers with a renewed focus on her butterfly events. An impact player for the team as a first year competitor, Maria should continue to impress her fellow team members with her energy and enthusiasm for these difficult events.
2006-2007: Memeber of 200 yard Medley relay and 400 yard medley relay both of which were fifth at MIAC 2007 Championships.
High School: A 2006 graduate of Maple Grove High School, Gau was coached by Matt Schoen and Anna Lovas … participated in swimming (four years) during her athletic career at Maple Grove High School … 2003 Section 2AA champion in the 100 yard butterfly … finished in the State Top 16 of the 100 yard butterfly … Member of the 200 yard medley relay team that placed fifth at State in 2005 … Member of the Maple Grove swimming team that were Section 2AA Champions in 2002 and 2005.
Personal: Daughter of Jane and Tom Gau of Maple Grove, Minn. … enjoys boating, swimming, water skiing and spending time with family and friends … proudest moment of her swimming career was turning an eighth place finish in the 100 yard butterfly race at the section 2AA Meet her first year of high school to a first place in the same event a year later … majoring in theology with a minor in seconday ecucation.
What do you like about being a collegiate student-athlete? “I love being part of the Blazer Athletic Community and I just love swimming."
