Impressive wins came against Gustavus, Carleton, Macalester and St. Thomas. Individually, junior Ashley Holderness, Edina, Minn., broke three school records in the 500 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 200 butterfly at the conference championships. Sophomore Katie Macy, Chaska, Minn., was crowned MIAC champ in three-meter diving and qualified for the NCAA Championships.
With the loss of only three graduating seniors, seventh-year head coach Mike Ritchie looks at his 1995-96 squad and sees four returning juniors and a host of first and second year athletes.
Their record was again 7-2 and 7-1, good depth in team led to impressive start at the St. Thomas Relays where CSB won two relay events, and set a meet record in the 300 meter backstroke. They continued their winning ways in breaking various records throughout the year, and finished with 11 at the Conference meet. Katie Macy, Michelle Macy, Deanne Siverson and Ashley Holderness all qualified provisionally for Nationals. Ashley Holderness broke the 1000 yd freestyle, 50 and 100 yd butterfly records during the year; Michelle Macy broke the 1000 freestyle; Deanne Siverson broke the 100 and 200 yd breaststroke, Katie Macy broke the 1 and 3 meter diving records, and CSB relay teams broke the 200 yd medley and 800 yd freestyle records.
