The College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving team faced stiff competition Friday. The Blazers battled out three top 20 finishes against division I and II opponents after the first day at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Invitational at the University of Minnesota.
Juniors Kelly Matzen (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie), Alison Pagliaccetti (Virginia, Minn./ Virginia) and Brooke Johnson (St. Cloud, Minn./ Tech) joined with sophomore Sara Baker (West Des Moines, Iowa/ Dowling) to grab 17 place in the 400 yard medley relay. Pagliaccetti was solid in the 50 yard freestyle wrapping up 11 place. Sophomore Abbey Brau (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) was impressive as well, notching a top 20 position with a 19 place performance in the 500 yard freestyle.
The Blazers will be back in the pool at 11 a.m. tomorrow for the conclusion of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Invitational at the University of Minnesota.
