Blazer Swimming and Diving Begins Season at Morris

The College of Saint Benedict Swimming and Diving team kicked off the 2007-2008 campaign with a solid start at the UM-Morris invitational Saturday. The Blazers tallied first place in six relays. Juniors Kelly Matzen (Eden Prairie, Minn./ Eden Prairie) and Alison Pagliaccetti (Virginia, Minn./ Virginia) combined with sophomore Maria Gau (Maple Grove, Minn./ Maple Grove) and first-year Kelle Karr (Maple Grove, Minn./ Maple Grove) took take first in the 200 yard medley relay in 1:58.24 . The 200 yard backstroke relay team of senior Kaelly Simpson (Plano, Texas/ Frisco), junior Beth Schiemann (Melrose, Minn./ Melrose) sophomore Chelsea Jenson (Plymouth, Minn. Wayzata) and Matzen to take first as well posting a 2:06.17.

Sophomore Lindsey Holm (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./ Simley) combined with first-years Allison Davis (Richland, Mich./ Hacket Catholic Central), Nora Berens (Shakopee, Minn./ Shakopee) and Hannah Balder (Stillwater, Minn./ Stillwater) to win the 200 yard breaststroke relay in 2:25.09. Schiemann and Simpson teamed up with senior Sarah Christianson (Fargo, N.D/ West Fargo) and First-year Katie Lambert (Broomfield, Colo./ Holy Family) to win the 500 Yard Freestyle Crescendo Relay by over seven seconds, posting a 5:16.35. Matzen and Pagliaccetti combined with fellow junior Becca Schleicher (Avon, Minn./ Albany) and first-year Katie Merkley (Eagan, Minn./ Eastview) to win the 200 yard freestyle relay in 1:44.64.

The Blazer divers had an equally impressive showing. Juniors Stephanie Johnson (Chaska, Minn. Chaska) and Serina Aubrecht (Shorewood, Minn./ Minnetonka) along with first-year Leah Koshmrl (Eden Prairie, Minn./ Eden Prairie)tied for first place in both the one and three meter dive.

The Blazers will return to action on Saturday November 3rd at the Northfield Invitational.
