The College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving team used four top five performances to hold onto fourth place at the MIAC championships Friday. After two days of competition the Blazers have tallied 279 team points. Gustavus Adolphus continues to lead the completion.
Sophomore Brooke Johnson (St. Cloud, Minn./ Tech) had a second consecutive day of stellar performances. After earning two top five finishes Thursday, Johnson earned a fourth place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke. First-years Chelsea Jenson (Plymouth, Minn./ Wayzata) and Maria Gau (Maple Grove, Minn./ Maple Grove) teamed with sophomores Brooke Johnson and Alison Pagliaccetti (Virginia, Minn./ Virginia) to collect a fifth place finish in the 200 yard medley relay.
Sophomore Kelly Matzen (Eden Prairie, Minn./ Eden Prairie) grabbed 14 team points and a fifth place finish in the 200 yard freestyle. The 800 yard freestyle relay team first-years Ann Koller (St. Louis Park, Minn./ St. Louis Park) and Abbey Brau (Eden Prairie, Minn./ Eden Prairie) with sophomores Beth Schiemann (Melrose, Minn./ Melrose) and Alison Pagliaccetti shook off some of the best competition in the MIAC to take fourth place.
The Blazers will culminate their season with two sessions Saturday at the Aquatic Center at the University of Minnesota. Events are scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m.
