Fresh off a series sweep against Macalester Tuesday, the Blazer softball team (3-7 MIAC, 7-14 overall) split its season series with St. Olaf (4-8 MIAC, 11-13 overall).
Saint Benedict jumped out to an early lead in the first game scoring seven runs in the third inning. Junior Andrea Fahey (Little Canada, Minn. / St. Bernard’s) pitched a complete game in the opener and struck out two batters to pick up her fifth win of the season.
The Blazers got a strong offensive effort from the top of the order. Senior Nicki Holmes (Eagan, Minn. / Eagan) and Tanya Croger (Duluth, Minn. / Denfeld) each had two hits and one RBI a piece.
The second game did not start the way the Blazers had hoped. St. Olaf’s Janae Fabini hit a leadoff home run and after that the Oles never relinquished the lead.
St. Olaf scored for more runs and never allowed the Blazers to get into a groove on offense. First-year Elle Borba (Ontario, Calif. / St. Lucy’s) suffered the loss on the mound giving up five earned earns in two innings of work.
Blazers are next in action 1 p.m. Saturday, April 19 with a series against Gustavus in St. Peter.
