The College of Saint Benedict softball team (0-4 MIAC, 4-11 overall) was swept by Bethel (2-0 MIAC, 10-7 overall) by scores of 8-1 and 9-1.
The Blazers collected eight hits in the opening game, but could only score one run. The sole run was scored in the top of the third inning when first-year infielder Alyssa Kubesh (Buffalo Lake, Minn. / Bufallo Lake-Hector) connected for an RBI-double that scored senior Nicki Holmes (Eagan, Minn. / Eagan).
The run in the third made it a one-run game, but the Royals spoiled Saint Benedict’s rally with a two-run fourth inning and a four-run fifth.
Kelly Berg led Bethel going 2-for-3 with three RBI’s and three runs scored.
The second game was all Bethel as the Royals scored nine runs in the first three innings. The Blazers’ offense continued to struggle scoring just one run off of three hits.
The Blazers are next in action 4 p.m. Monday, April 7 against Carleton in Northfield. The game was rescheduled from April 1 due to bad weather and poor field conditions.
