1994 Season Review

The Blazer soccer team (9-7-2 overall, 5-3-2 MIAC fourth place) was knocking on the door of success. Once again CSB went into the final week of the regular season with an opportunity to win the conference and receive a bid to the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament. Unlike the previous year, the 1994 season was expected to be one of rebuilding since this year’s team was young. However, second-year coach Laure Schingen directed the Blazers to back-to-back 11-win seasons.

Highlights of the soccer campaign included victories over Macalester, St. Thomas and Carleton. Sophomore Katie Boyd, Rosemount, Minn., led the team in scoring with nine goals and six assists for 24 points, earning her All-MIAC honors, while first-year player Katie Snyder, Burnsville, Minn., added seven goals for 19 points.  Junior Sarah Karr, Stillwater, Minn., contributed 18 points and earned All-MIAC honors.

After a season of many lessons learned, the Blazer soccer team is certainly one of the most talented and experienced squads returning in the conference next fall. Schingen knows leadership and team chemistry will dictate the 1995 success.

More confidence and a more experienced team- they will be graduating five seniors this year- Sr. Kerry Lynch led team in scoring with 8 goals and 5 assists for 21 points, followed by Sr. Sarah Karr with 8 goals and 4 assists for 20 points. Defensively, Sarah Dornbach helped CSB with her 127 saves, 28 of which were in Conference play, and she also had 5 shut-outs.
