Strohm – Blazers Gain National Spotlight

10/03/2007

The College of Saint Benedict soccer team moved up to number 22 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll. At the beginning of last week the Blazers were ranked as the 24th best team in the nation. The Blazers 10-0 has shattered previous records, to become the best start in franchise history. The Blazers have eight games remaining on the season including two big games against Macalester College and Concordia-Moorhead College.

Blazers second-year goalkeeper Shannon Strohm (Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley) has garnered some national spotlight as well.  Strohm was named to the D3kicks.com starting team for this past week. The team is composed of the best division III women’s soccer performers from around the country over the past week.

Strohm has recorded six of the Blazers seven shutouts on the season. While she has benefited from played behind a stingy defense, she has managed to rise to the occasion late in big ball games. Strohm has only allowed three goals in eight games started.
