Blazers Fall Across the Border 2-1

10/17/2006

The College of Saint Benedict couldn't find a way to capitalize on their scoring opportunities, as they were defeated 2-1, by UW-River Falls in River Falls Wisconsin. The Blazers out shot the Falcons by a total of 19-10, but the Falcons shots found their way into the net. The Falcons had the Jensen to Peterson connection working all day long, hooking up for two goals off the foot of Ashley Peterson (Lino Lakes, Minn /Forest Lake) at the 13:40 mark and 26:00 mark of the first half.

The Blazers had plenty of opportunities to score their second goal. On top of the team's 19 shots, seven of which were on target, the blazers manufactured seven corner kicks. The College of Saint Benedict finally got on the scoreboard in the 55th minute with a goal from first year Alison Tourville (Plyomouth, Minn / Armstrong). For Tourville it was her fourth goal of the season, tying sophomore Allyson Draxler (Plymouth, Minn /Benilde-St. Margaret's) for the team lead. Tina Lisk (Louisville, Colo. / Monarch) delivered the goal scoring pass to Tourville for her team leading fifth assist. Over the past two games the Blazers have managed a remarkable 47 shots, but only have two goals to show for their efforts. In the net, the loss was given to first year goal keeper Shannon Strohm (Burnsville, Minn. / Apple Valley).

The Blazers have played better then their 7-6-1 overall record would indicate. With playoff hopes still on the horizon, the College of Saint Benedict will travel to Saint Mary's University 1 p.m. match on Saturday October 21.
