The Nordic Ski team once again got clutch performances from their first-years, as the Blazers finished 8th overall at the Mount Itasca NorAm SuperTour races this weekend. The pair of Anna Roessler (Grand Rapids, Minn./ Grand Rapids) and Christi Nowak (Dayton, Minn./ Rogers) finished one-two on the team in the Freestyle, and the team took 90 points overall to go along with 89 more from Saint John's, who also participated in the event. Roessler also finished first on the team in the Classic.
The Freestyle event was the better event for everyone on the Nordic Ski Team. The first-year pair put up major points here, as Roessler finished 30th overall and Nowak backed her up with a 35th place finish. And the team itself gathered 50 points in this event, ten more than in the Classic. Other great performances included Maggie Donahue, who finished second on the team in the Classic, and third in the Freestyle. Their finish, too, was behind some of the best teams around, as the Alaska Nanooks and the Northern Michigan continued their dominence, finishing one-two for the women. But the Blazers themselves exemplified togetherness in the Classic, as four of the athletes finished consecutively, finishing about half a minute apart. Next weekend the Blazer Nordic Ski Team travels to the Telemark Lodge in Cable, WI for two days in a continuation of the NorAm SuperTour and their third NCAA Tournament qualifier.
