Skating, puck-handling, shooting, passing, scoring, goaltending. The Blazer hockey team was ready to fill the void brought by the graduation of two-time MVP Paula Vogt. Six seniors, representing the first real recruiting class for a program that began in 1997, would have to display a strong sense of leadership. Head coach, Tom Peart came in coaching his 3rd season with a strong sense of enthusiasm.
The CSB skaters went 10-15 overall and 9-9 in the MIAC conference. They were the number five seed in the MIAC playoffs and lost in the first round to the number four seed Concordia. The Blazers played as a team.
Katy Rollwagen set the St. Ben’s career scoring record with 135 points in her four-year career in her game against Hamline University. Rollwagen and first-year Susan Engel were named to the All-MIAC first team. Sophomores Sarah Ladd and Kari Dykhoff received All-MIAC Honorable Mentions and Engel was named to the first ever MIAC All-Rookie team.
Peart concludes, “We will definitely miss the six seniors next season. They have helped build this program and helped put us in a position to take the next step in our development as a team and as a program. We will miss their enthusiasm and their love for the game of hockey.”
