1998-1999 Season Review

In just their second season, the CSB ice hockey program (11-15 overall 4-6 MIAC fourth place) earned the opportunity to compete in the Augsburg Invitational as on of the top four finishers in the conference.  Despite a pair of loses, 4-1 to Gustavus and 5-2 against Augsburg, the Blazers were competitive all season.  Under the direction of second-year head coach Bill Kelly, and assistant coach Tom Peart, the team's talent and fundamentals improved significantly form it's inaugural season.  The two coaches will switch positions in 99-00 with Peart being elevated to head coach and Kelly moving into the assistant's role.

First-year players Katy Rollwagen and Shannon Kegley each netted 16 goals to lead the team .  However, it was University of Minnesota transfer Paula Vogt that led the team in total points with 36.  Another first -year player Kristin Blumberg, CSB's goalkeeper, gave up 2.81 goals per game.

One of the team's highlights include a win over cross-town rival, St. Cloud State University.

Ice hockey was recognized as an MIAC sport for the first time this winter.  GAC, Augsburg, and St. Mary's all tied for first place in the conference.  The Blazers lost a pair of one-game contests to St-Mary's late in the season.
