The College of Saint Benedict (4-9-2 MIAC, 4-13-2) was overcome after a nearly game against Concordia College (9-4-2 MIAC, 9-9-2) 3-2.
The main difference in the close to even game was when Concordia’s Bre Bian snuck in a goal during a power play in the second. Otherwise, both teams had two even strength goals and similar shots on goal with CSB having 21 and the Cobbers with 24.
Although CC’s Ceara Bergsrud scored the first goal of the game at 7:57 in the first, CSB’s Maggie Kinney (Woodbury, Minn.) tied up the period with six seconds remaining on the clock. Kinney was unassisted and this was her seventh goal of the season.
Then at 3:07 in the second, the Blazers’ Abby Milton (Maple Grove, Minn.) scored off a pass from Michelle Eberhard (Roseville, Minn.) giving the Blazers a temporary lead 2-1.
Concordia’s Alyssa Dahl got the game winner with 7:40 left in the game. The Blazers offense had the desire and aptitude to take the game back but the Cobbers defense did everything in their power to prevent CSB.
The Blazers now have the opportunity get retribution and finish their weekend series against Concordia at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16 in Moorhead, Minn.
