The fourth overtime game in a row for the College of Saint Benedict (4-6-2 MIAC, 4-10-2)
ended in a 3-3 tie against the College of St. Catherine (4-7-1 MIAC, 7-10-2).
St. Kate’s was leading 3-2 late in the third but with only 24 seconds left, CSB’s Patty King (St. Paul, Minn. - pictured right) tied up the game bringing them to overtime. It was Patty’s second goal of the game.
To make this possible, head coach Pat Michaud substituted goalie Amanda Plumm (Lake Elmo, Minn.) for the extra player. This gave Stephanie Kendrick (Osceola, Wis.) and Maggie Kinney (Woodbury, Minn.) the strength to assist in the comeback goal.
Saint Benedict executed special teams with force. King scored at 10:41 in the first off a power play along with Kendrick scoring at 5:11 in the second. The first goal was assisted by first-year Gretchen Leyendecker (Rochester, Minn.). Stephanie’s was unassisted.
The Blazers had the Wildcats out shot 35-26 and led the game in face offs 41-27. CSB had the effort and consistency to win but St. Kate’s defense made it hard to get into any flow.
CSB will now go against Gustavus, No. 1 in the MIAC, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8. Come cheer on the Blazer at the MAC in St. Cloud, Minn.
