The College of Saint Benedict (4-5-1 MIAC, 4-9-1) reigned successful 3-2 over Augsburg College (3-6-1 MIAC, 3-11-1) during an overtime match at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Like their pervious game on Friday night, the Auggies started out with the first two goals. Augsburg’s Tiffany Maguson and Katie Medd scored and had an assist each while their
teammate Jackie Keller also helped out on one of them. Maguson’s goal was off a power play.
At 11:27 in the second, the Blazers’ Maggie Rothstein (Grand Rapids, Minn.) was called for interference. This gave the Auggies a one person advantage but that did stop CSB’s Janae Coauette (Crookston, Minn. – pictured right) from scoring a shorthanded goal at 13:19. The goal was assisted by Stephanie Kendrick (Osceola, Wis.) and Ashley Rebeck (Saint Andrews, Canada).
Kendrick then went on to scoring her second goal of the weekend series against Augsburg 42 seconds into the third. This evened out the score 2-2 and sent the teams into overtime.
On the Blazers’ third shot on goal in OT, Coauette scored the game-winner at the 2:12 mark bringing the Blazers to victory. Rebeck and Jackie Hoeft (Maplewood, Minn.) both contributed with the assist to the win.
Saint Benedict out shot Augsburg 35-26. The Blazers’ Amanda Plumm (Lake Elmo, Minn.) made 24 saves in goal, while opponent Toni Menth recorded 32. CSB also took the lead in faceoffs 33-26
The Blazers plan on keeping their momentum going as they face St. Catherine at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1 at the MAC in St. Cloud.
