The Blazer started out strong, but in the end Lindenwood (Mo.) enjoyed an opening exhibition series win Saturday at the St. Cloud Municipal Athletic Complex.
First-year Gretchen Leyendecker got Saint Benedict (3-5 overall) started with a goal in the first period. The Blazers took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission, but after that the floodgates opened for the Lions.
Lindenwood (15-2 overall) took control in the second period out-shooting Saint Benedict 18-7. Senior Melanie Keith tied the game up seven minutes into the period and sophomore Mandy Dion tapped in the go-ahead goal on a Lion power play.
The Lions added two more goals in the third period and kept the Blazer offensive attack at bay.
First-year goaltender Abbie Helminen recorded 25 saves in the net for the Blazers.
Both teams play again 2 p.m. Sunday at Torrey Arena.
