St. Olaf forward Melissa Sailor scored on a power play goal with 3.3 seconds left in regulation to give the Oles a 4-3 victory and the series split with the Blazers.
Saint Benedict (3-3 MIAC, 3-5 overall) was led by senior Maggie Kinney who scored two goals in the third period.
The Oles (3-3 MIAC, 3-5) held a 3-0 advantage, until junior forward Abby Milton scored a goal six minutes into the second period.
Milton’s goal fueled a Blazer rally as Kinney’s two goals in the final period tied the game. Kinney’s game-tying goal came with two minutes left in regulation and the game appeared destined for overtime, but Sailor had other plans when she answered the Blazers’ three goal run in the closing seconds.
First-year goaltender Amanda Plumm recorded 27 saves for Saint Benedict.
The Blazers will have little time to rest as they prepare for a weekend exhibition series with Lindenwood (Mo.). The Lions (15-2 overall) are currently ranked No. 3 in the American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 1 women’s hockey poll and rank first in the ACHA’s West Region poll.
Game times for the Lindenwood (Mo.) series are scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday with both games being played at Torrey Arena in the St. Cloud MAC.
