Blazers Beat Defending National Champions Robert Morris 4-2

11/08/2007

The College of Saint Benedict defeated Robert Morris College, the defending national champions, in an exhibition game 4-2 on Thursday, Nov. 8 at Municipal Athletic Complex in St. Cloud, Minn.

The game started in favor of the Eagles (8-5 overall) with 47 seconds left in the first period when Bridget Katz scored their first point.

After the first break, the Blazers came back with full intensity when junior Stephanie Kendrick (Osceola, Wis. / New Richmond) scored off of a power play to tie up the game.  Junior Abby Milton (Maple Grove, Minn. / Maple Grove) was with the assist.  32 seconds before the end of the second period, Janae Coauette (Crookston, Minn. / Crookston) passed to Ashley Davenport (Inver Grove Heights, Minn. / Simley) who then shot and scored putting the Blazers in the lead.

Kendrick, Blazers’ top returning scorer, kicked off the third period with yet another goal.  This did not go unanswered though when Katz was assisted by Danielle McCutch on a power play for one more point.  With less than a minute left, Davenport sealed the game with another goal.

The Blazers lost to Robert Morris College last year by a score of 2-4 and now the tables have turned.  If the Blazers continue to show the strengths they just revealed, they are in for an incredible season.

The puck drops for the Blazers’ upcoming game against Saint Mary’s at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9 at the Municipal Athletic Complex in St. Cloud, Minn.
