The College of Saint Benedict’s (0-1-0 MIAC) first game of the season ended in favor of the University of Wisconsin-Superior (1-0-0 WIAC) 6-1 on Saturday November 3 in Superior, WI. Blazers fought hard against Superior, a team ranked top ten in the nation.
The first period concluded with Superior up 3-1. Senior Amanda Trusty (Minnetonka, Minn. / Hopkins) scored a stunning goal, but the Yellowjackets completed three in return.
The Blazers were able to hold the Yellowjackets off from scoring in the second period but unfortunately made no goals themselves. The Blazers were successful five on five but their special teams is where they lacked in strength.
According to Pat Michaud, the first year athletes performed with great ability. Goalie Abbie Helminen (Brighton, Mich.) made some exceptional saves for her first game in her collegiate career.
The Blazers are already mentally preparing for another game against the Yellowjackets Sunday November 4 at 2 p.m. After that, they will have four days to get ready for their first home game of the season against Robert Morris College. This will take place in the Municipal Athletic Complex in St. Cloud, Minn. on Thursday November 8. Face-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
