CSB ice hockey team hires new assistant

06/26/2007

The College of Saint Benedict ice hockey team recently hired Brian Nyholm as the top-assistant coach under head coach Pat Michaud.

Nyholm replaces the coaching vacancy left by Ann Mortenson, who previously served as the Blazers’ top assistant the past three seasons.

Nyholm, who served as a volunteer head coach for the Blazers last winter, plans to use his 12 years of coaching experience to help CSB succeed on the ice during the 2007-08 season.

A native of Cloquet, Minn., Nyholm graduated from Minn.-Duluth with a degree in secondary education. Nyholm later received his Masters of Science degree in education instruction at Wis.-Superior.

While at Wis.-Superior, Nyholm served as an assistant coach on the women’s ice hockey team from 2001-2003 helping the Yellowjackets to a NCHA regular season championship in 2003.

In addition to being an assistant coach, Nyholm is a mathematics professor at St. Cloud State University and resides in Sartell, Minn.
