02/10/2007

The College of Saint Benedict (2-7-5 MIAC, 2-13-5) women's hockey team skated to a 3-3 tie, fighting off the Wildcats of Saint Catherine University (0-12-2 MIAC, 0-18-2) on Saturday evening at Ridder Arena. The Blazers controlled the pace of the game from the opening face-off, out shooting the Wildcats by a margin of 45-16. Shots failed to tell the story as the Blazers found goals hard to come by. The Blazers were lead by captain Erin Baldwin  (Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Park Center) who scored two goals on the night. Baldwin has been on a tear for the Blazers, scoring six goals in the teams last three games. Ashley Davenport (Inver Grove Heights, Minn. / Simley)added her fourth goal of the season, while also scoring in her forth straight game. Sarah Zweber (White Bear Lake, Minn. / White Bear Lake) started in the net for the Blazers, making 13 saves and improving her season record to 1-8-4. With the tie the Blazers extend their unbeaten streak to three games, their longest of the season.

On Friday the College of Saint Benedict women's hockey team will host first place Gustavus Adolphus College at the Municipal Athletic Complex in St. Cloud, Minn. Face-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
