The ice had a sort of familiar feeling to it when the College of Saint Benedict's (0-5-0, 0-1-0 MIAC) hockey team took the ice tonight. The feeling wasn’t nearly as foreign as. It had the feel of a MIAC women’s hockey game. Friday night, the Blazers were defeated by the Pipers of Hamline University (1-1-1, 1-0-0 MIAC) by a final score of 5-2 in their first MIAC contest of the season.
It was a back and forth style game between the Pipers and the Blazers. After trailing 1-0 in the first period, the Blazers came back to tie the score at one goal apiece, on a power-play goal by senior Sarah Wilson (Fairmont, Minn. / Fairmont). The College of Saint Benedict would also come back to tie the score at two apiece, when senior captain Stepahnie Gassert (Cloquet, Minn. / Cloquet) assisted her co-captain Erin Baldwin (Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Park Center) for her first goal of the season. The Blazers skated stride for
stride with the Pipers, until Hamline extended their lead to 4-2 with fewer than five minutes remaining in the second period. The Pipers added their last goal with a little over a minute remaining in the contest.
Head coach Pat Michaud is excited about having home ice advantage on Saturday afternoon, when his Blazers finish out the two game set against Hamline University. Face-off is at 2 p.m. The game will be played at the Municipal Athletic Complex in St. Cloud Minnesota.
