The College of Saint Benedict (0-0-0 MIAC, 0-4-0 overall) women’s hockey team finished their weekend series across the border with a 6-0 loss to sixth ranked University Wisconsin Stevens Point (0-0-0 MIAC, 4-0-0 overall). It was the first meeting between these two programs since the 2002 season. Stevens Point managed to remain undefeated with the victory over the Blazers, and improve their record to 4-0-0. The Pointers six goals came from the sticks of six different players. On the flipside, the Blazers fall to 0-4-0 in the young season as they await their first MIAC action.
Stevens Point staked a two goal lead in the first period, which would prove to be enough of a cushion as the Pointers defense held the College of Saint Benedict to only 6 shots on goal. The Blazers were out shot 47-6 in the contest and 26-2 in the second period alone. Three of the Pointers six goals came while the Blazers were skating with a man disadvantage. The Blazers were called for 12 penalties, led by sophomore Abby Milton (Maple Grove, Minn. / Maple Grove) who served six minutes in the penalty box. Despite allowing six goals, first-year goaltender Erica Hartel (Manitoba, Canada / Virden Collegiate Institute) made a remarkable 41 saves. Stevens Point's offensive attack was just too potent, handing Hartel her second loss of the season.
The College of Saint Benedict will welcome the sight of familiar faces when they open MIAC play on Friday November 17th. The Blazers travel to Hamline for a 7:15 face-off.
