Practice:
Fall practice begins one week before classes begin and runs through early October. Spring practice begins in March indoors and runs through early May. Our practice sites are Blackberry Ridge and Pebble Creek. Spring practice begins in early March on artificial turf mats in the Haehn Campus Center. Team practice is 4-5 days/week, including a team workout one day per week.
Season:
The Blazers compete 5-6 consecutive weekends in the fall with potential meets in MN, SD, ND, and WI. Most meets run 36 holes over two days with one to two additional one-day Friday meets. Fall season concludes with the MIAC Championship. All-Conference Honors can be earned by finishing in the top 10. Spring season includes the Minnesota State Collegiate Women's Golf Association meet hosted in rotation. All-State honors for top six can be earned in the meet. Golfers have the opportunity to qualify for the Division III NCAA finals hosted in May. Nine rounds of 18 holes must be completed in the fall season and three in the spring to meet partial qualifications. Season averages of 85 and lower have the best chance to qualify.
Off-Season:
Golfers are expected to continue conditioning throughout the off-season. CSB and SJU offer complete weight room facilities, pools, indoor track, tennis courts, intramural activities, cross-country ski trails, canoeing, and other fun activities to help increase and maintain a high level of fitness. Golf lessons from a pro (including pro's tips on your personal game in writing for the coach), and open gym hitting practice are encouraged. The Stardome in Waite Park also offers low cost season passes to hit over the winter.
The Blazer Team:
With each year of maturity, CSB fields a more competitive squad. Ten to twelve players will be named to the team with and official card of five competing in tournaments. We often have the opportunity to bring two or three additional players to meets as well. Team selection is based on competitive scoring and maintaining a successful academic schedule as well as displaying the "winning" attitude that has become the trademark of high-class student athletes at CSB.
Affiliation:
CSB is a member of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) and NCAA Division III. The MIAC is recognized as one of the strongest NCAA Division III conferences in the nation. Members of the MIAC include: Augsburg, Concordia-Moorhead, Gustavus, Macalester, St. Catherine's, St. Mary's, St. Olaf, and St. Thomas. The Blazers also compete against several Division II and NAIA schools.
Things to Know:
*To be competitive in Division III, you need to shoot low to mid-80's. Medalists shoot 77-83.
*For CSB, you need to shoot 92 or less in 18 holes. Top four at meets average 86.
*One class day is usually missed.
*CSB covers all practice and travel expenses during the season.
