1987-1988 Season Review

A new tradition started at the College of Saint Benedict on Saturday, September 19, 1987, at the Bellwood Golf Course near Hastings, MN.   Golf became a NCAA Division III intercollegiate sport at Saint Benedicts.

The Blazers finished third in a triangular meet with conference foes St. Olaf and St. Thomas.  St. Olaf won the meet with a score of 360, St. Thomas was second with 382 and the Blazers finished close behind with a  score of 391.

The fall season continued for the Blazers at the Mankato State Invitational in Mankato, MN.  TH squad played only 18-holes of the 36-hole tournament as the team was unable to get out of school on Friday to travel to the meet.  However, this didn't seem to affect the Blazers as they finished in the middle of the 12 teams that competed that day.

During the spring season, Saint Benedict's competed at the Winona State Invitational in Rochester, MN, on April 15 and 16.  The Blazers finished eighth in the eight team field.  On Monday, May 2, the Blazer team had an outstanding performance at the St. Cloud State Invitational.  The squad finished third out of five teams and ahead of Minnesota-Duluth and Minnesota-Morris.

The team was led by Teresa Solarz, a senior from Hibbing, MN, and the Blazers most valuable player.
