Smart, Disciplined Golf Lifts Blazers to Fourth Place Finish at MIAC Championship

10/08/2007

The College of Saint Benedict women’s golf team has nothing to frown about after taking fourth place at the 2007 MIAC golf championship this weekend. The Blazers finished day three of the tournament by shooting a 349. Saint Thomas took first place in the tournament, followed by Gustavus and Saint Olaf.

Sophomore Teresa Walch (Zumbrota, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa) led the Blazers, shooting an 88 the third round, giving her a three day tournament total of 260 placing her tied for nineteenth place overall. Junior Ann Dressen (Alexandria, Minn. /Jefferson) shot a 93, and finished one stroke behind Walch shooting a total of 261 for the tournament, placing her in 21st place overall. Shooting an 86 and finishing with a total of 263 for the weekend and placing 23rd was sophomore April Dammann (Glencoe, Minn. /Glencoe-Silver Lake). Junior Leigh Bartholomew tied for 25th place and shot an 88 the third round, finishing with a total of 268, while first year Sarah Hupperts (North Oaks, Minn. / Mounds View) finished with a total of 273 and shot an 87 the third round, giving her a 30th place standing overall.

Day three of the tournament was a tough one due to strong winds, rain and cold weather; however that did not stop the Blazers from stepping along. Head coach Pat Michaud had nothing but positive comments about the weekend. “We did what we needed to do to move up,” Michaud said. “We played disciplined and smart golf this weekend.”

The Blazers golf team finish the season on a positive note. With a young and very talented team, the 2008 season should bring improvements and experience to the CSB golf team.
