Only nine points separated the College of Saint Benedict from capturing an at large berth in the NCAA cross country tournament. The Blazers finished seventh at the NCAA Central Regional Championship in Northfield, Minn on Saturday afternoon. The Blazers’ 210 point finish was nine points behind St. Olaf’s 201 points and 13 points behind the University of Saint Thomas’ 197 points. All-Regional awards were handed out to sophomore standout Margot Branigan (Roseville, Minn. /Roseville) and senior captain Kristin Haubrich (Shakopee, Minn. / Shakopee).
Head coach Robin Balder-Lanoue couldn’t’ help but rave about her team’s performance after all the results were collected on Saturday.
“Our team raced phenomenal today. We beat several teams that were ranked in the nation – everybody on our team ran well today,” said Balder-Lanoue.
The Blazers had four runners finish in the top 50 in Northfield. Branigan finished at number 16 with a time of 23:01. Haubrich just missed finishing in the top 25, finishing number 27 with a time of 23:16. Senior Kaylee Rasmussen (Waconia, Minn. /Waconia) and junior Sam VanWechel (Fergus Falls, Minn. /Fergus Falls) were the other two Blazers to finish in the top 50.
