Jan. 31, 2005 - Tonight the Blazers rebounded from Saturday's tough loss as they improved to 14-
3 overall and 11-3 in MIAC play with a 77-51 victory over the Bethel Royals. Junior Anna Heikenen (Edina/Edina) paced the Blazers with 15 points and eight rebounds, while senior Kim Johnson (Arden Hills/Mounds View) added 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds to become only the second Blazer basketball to have 800 rebounds in her career. The Royals kept things close in the first ten minutes of the game, but the Blazers never lost their lead. CSB shot just 27 percent from the field in the first half, but was ahead 29-20 at halftime.
The Blazers shot a stifling 56 percent from the field in the second half as they increased their lead to over 30 points. Sophomore Laura Zwach (Walnut Grove/Tracy Area) and first-year player Angela Merkling (Woodbury/Woodbury) each came off the bench to score 11 points. Saint Ben's made 19-27 free throws, while Bethel connected on 4-7. The Blazers also had a 49-26 rebounding advantage for the game.
Saint Ben's is currently tied for second place in the MIAC standings with Concordia-Moorhead. The Blazers are next in action on Wednesday at St. Catherine. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
