The Saint Ben’s basketball team (20-5 overall, 19-3 MIAC Runners-up) got off to a rocky start going 1-3 in their first four games but turned things around in a big hurry. The Blazers rallied around head coach Mike Durbin, in his 14th year, and five seniors to rip off eight straight wins. Saint Ben’s went 19-2 to close out their season.
Saint Ben's finished the year ranked second in the regional ranking. However, due to a change in the championship format, the Blazers did not receive an at-large bid into the NCAA Division III tournament for the first time in 11 seasons. But not even that could prevent the season from being a successful one. The Blazers were MIAC runners-up and broke the Saint Ben’s record for most points in a game, (110) against St. Kate’s. Durbin recorded his 300th win and is now 317-93 (.773) overall. Senior Molly Mark scored her 1,000-career point and shattered the CSB career steals record with 372 steals. Senior Laura Wendorff became the all-time leading scorer in Blazer history with 1,775 points and Jenny Blaser fought back from a season ending injury to start with her fellow seniors, Julie Korf, Beth Holbrook, Mark and Wendorff, in their last collegiate game at Saint Ben’s.
The Blazers are 73-9 overall the last three seasons. CSB will return two of five starters next winter.
