2002-2003 Season Review

As the Blazers entered the 2002-03 season, head coach Mike Durbin and the Blazer Basketball team had high expectations.   After losing only one starter from the previous year, the Blazers proved to be one of the best.

The Blazers knew how to score, averaging 77.3 points per game, while holding their opponents to only 58 points per game.  CSB finished the season  24-3 overall and 20-2 in the MIAC.  The Blazers shared the MIAC title with both Carleton and Gustavus.  CSB was the number three seed in the MIAC playoffs, and defeated Concordia-Moorhead in the first round 74-57, but were knocked out of the playoffs by Gustavus in the second round 67-62.  This game proved to be the final game of the season for the Blazers since they did not receive an at large bid from the NCAA selection committee.

Senior post Danni Hannon became the 13th player in school history to score 1,000 points or more during their career.  Leading the Blazers in scoring on the season was senior guard Michelle Barlau with 18.3 points per game.  Hannon finished the season averaging 13.6 points per game.  Barlau and Hannon were once again named to the All-MIAC team, while juniors Ashley Brown and Leah Laurich earned All-MIAC honorable mention honors.
