The Blazer basketball team finished their season with a loss to Carleton in the MIAC playoff semifinals, but will stretch their season through May 23 as they travel to Greece on May 15 to play three international games overseas.
“Besides winning the national championship, this is the best way to go out,” said senior Mackenzie O’Neil.
In past years, the team has traveled to Australia and Italy, but will make the adjustment to Greece this time around. And adjustments their will be. The Blazers will have to adjust to using a men’s basketball, a greater-distanced three-point line, and some differences when passing the ball inbounds. However, the team is excited to be able to play again. 10 practices are allotted during the spring in preparation for their travel.
“It definitely gives closure to our season,” said senior Judy Falvey. “We get to get together one more time and play a couple of more games.”
The Blazers don’t know which teams they will be playing, but head coach Mike Durbin shares the excitement with the players anyway. “We don’t know what the caliber is,” he said. “It’s a phenomenal opportunity and I’m really excited about this trip.”
