Zheng Wang's Platform

Hi, my name is Zheng Wang. I’m from China. For those of you who are wondering how to pronounce my name, it sounds like “jungle” without the “le”.  I am a first year, double majoring in accounting and environmental studies, and am running for the position of Club Auditor for the St. Ben’s Senate. I first became interested in the Senate when I heard my classmates talking about how the Senate proposed to limit students from living off-campus. This made me realize how big an impact the Senate could have on our lives here at St. Ben’s. In a tightly connected community like CSB/SJU, I’m eager to contribute my thoughts and opinions, and my best efforts to the school.

As an accounting major, I found the word “auditor” rather exciting. Responsibility and attention to details are vitally important for a Club Auditor. She has to be impartial and able to detect rather invisible flaws in clubs’ usages and budgeting of funding. But the more I learn about this position, the more I realize that to be a Club Auditor is much more than just keeping track of the numbers. As Senator Laura Huiras pointed out, “You can make a Club Auditor anything you want it to be.”   A Club Auditor plays an important role in influencing the Senate’s decisions and students’ daily lives by voting in the SBS. As members of Allocation Board, the Club Auditors together with the Allocation Chair make sure every club can properly function with appropriate funding. An active coordinator in this student autonomous organization, a Club Auditor also meets with various clubs, Student Accounts Office and several committees to ensure timely communications and provide efficiency.

My experiences make me qualified for a challenging position like a Club Auditor. From working in Residential Life at St. Ben’s as a receptionist and office assistant, I have learned how to get things in order when pressed with multiple tasks, and how to handle everything in a professional manner.  I am an active member of Campus Greens, and have come up with several creative ideas for activities and propaganda. I also volunteer at Kidstop in the local elementary school. From spending some time with the kids every week, I got to know how to treat different kinds of people in different ways. Before college, I founded the first high-school-based Model United Nations Association in mainland China with four other students and served as the Vice President. I also participated Harvard College Association for US-China Relations Summit for Young Leaders in China 2007as a Course Assistant.

I am responsible, experienced, and passionate. I will do my best, and I believe I can make a difference. St. Ben’s is a wonderful place for inquiry and independent women like you and me. I feel obliged to dedicate my time and efforts to make a contribution to this school.
