D. Advisor’s Report

Advisor Terhaar – Compliments to Senator Finley and everyone else involved.  There is a very positive energy surrounding Bennie Day.  There are a portion of senators here that are going to be allocating funds soon.  There is a lot of pressure to allocate funds.  Send them your good thoughts.  They have a big job ahead of them.

Advisor Esch- Next year is the year of Sustainability and if the committee would like to have Ernest Diedrich come speak I can arrange that.

E. St. John’s Senate (Senator Swanson)

We recently had our quickest meeting yet at 43 minutes.  We will be selling t-shirts on Friday for Johnnie day.  We decided to wait until after long weekend to give out the T-shirts that SJU Senate usually gives out to freshman at this time.  We are moving forward on our logo.  It is a  rat with Saint John’s Senate written on it .

F. Comments or Questions

Senator Burgason – I have 2 questions:

How many t-shirts did we sell?

Do plan on sending a e-mail about selling more shirts?

Senator Finley – I would like to send out an e-mail about buying shirts before the game on Saturday and also the results of the prizes.

Senator Finley – Thank you for all your help.  There were times I was very busy. Approximately 1,325 shirts were sold at Bennie Day which comes to a total of $6625.00.  We ordered 2,350 shirts.  1,200 shirts were sold at Involvement this year.  Thank you for your hard work.  I look forward to Saturday.

Gresback – I would like to give you an update on the Academic Building Visionary meeting was on Monday.  It went really well.  It was inspiring how much they were focused on getting student involvement.  We did some creative activities.  I’m really excited to see how it goes.  Vice President Peichel and Senator Andreasen were also present.

Pubilc Relations Representative De Leon – Senator Swanson could you give us an update on activities for Johnnie day?

Senator Swanson – The Senator in charge of this has recently been sick and has a sprained ankle.  I know we will be handing out root beer floats.

Trustee Hauff – I just wanted to let everyone know I had a conference call with the Board of Trustees.  We are going to be having more and more conference calls.  If you have issues I will have a process for you to present those to me.

Senator Gresback – Is it possible to send out an e-mail to the SJU students for the pancake dinner?

Public Relations Represenative De Leon – I asked that question also.  I wouldn’t feel comfortable without speaking to their Public Relations Representative.  We will be making a decision after the meeting.

IV. New Business

A. Motion to cancel the Senate meeting on October 7, 2009 due to Long Weekend break. (Peichel)

Motion made by Vice President Peichel and second by Senator Burgason.

Vice President Peichel – Technically the residential halls and everyone is free to go at 5.  I’m making this motion to respect people that need to get going.

0910-017 Motion to cancel the Senate meeting on October 7, 2009 due to Long Weekend break.

Passed with vote of 16-0

B. Motion to allocate up to $250 from the Saint Ben’s Senate generated account as a loan to the Saint Ben’s Senate Alumnae Chapter fundraiser. (Hauff)

Motion made by Trustee Hauff and second by Treasurer K. Hansen.

Trustee Hauff – We’ve been working on setting the goals for the chapter.  We are changing a little bit from having a group of us from the Senate to a Board.  Something we talked about was to set a chapter and solidify it.  We need to start an account.  We are wondering if we could take a loan from the generated account to get the account going. We will have a fundraiser at the end of October to pay back the loan.  There won’t be a chance that we won’t be able to pay it back.

Treasurer K. Hansen – I am in full support of this motion.  Don’t worry, we have enough money in the generated account to loan the money.  We will get all the money back.

Trustee Hauff – The person who is going to be signing PO’s is going to be gone until the beginning of October.  That is why I am presenting this now.

Treasurer K. Hansen –The reason we aren’t housing the account ourselves:  Currently there is no alumnae account.  With this, the alumnae don’t have to go through the Senate account.

Senator Burgason – What is the fundraiser?

Trustee Hauff – Halloween treat bags.  We will take the orders one week and then we will buy the supplies the next.  You can’t lose money off of it and that is why it is a good fundraiser.  I wanted to introduce a small fundraiser to establish a chapter.

Senator Gresback – Who will control the money later?

Trustee Hauff – Somewhere in the alumnae relations.  A big part of the alumnae chapter needs to have some rules.  A process needs to be formed.  That is what my plan is.

0910-018 – Motion to allocate up to $250 from the Saint Ben’s Senate generated account as a loan to the Saint Ben’s Senate Alumnae Chapter fundraiser. (Hauff)

Motion passes with a vote of 16-0.
