B. Vice President’s Report (Peichel)

You have a few papers under your agenda.  I want you to be aware of the Joint Senate Appeals Meeting.  Let us know as soon as possible if you are unable to attend.  It will be held at 5:00 P.M.  Both Presidents will be giving reports.  We will be hearing appeals from clubs.  They are coming to ask for additional funding.  The CSB/SJU senate can choose separately to give money to clubs from our allocated funds.  (See handouts)  We want to stress the fact of respect of the clubs appealing.  If you have any questions you can let me know.

MAPC Fall Retreat is coming soon.  CHANGE is the theme of the retreat.(Information provided on the flyer)  All students are welcome to attend the retreat.  It is very exciting that we get to have the retreat here on campus.  We try to offer different lodging options.  What we try to do is to offer a dorm stay option.  If you are comfortable enough to have a woman stay with you for the night, please sign up.  Please get RSVP’s in as soon as possible.

Senator Gresback – Is the MAPCS retreat a required event?

President VerBurg – It will be mandatory.  We did discuss that there are optional night activities.  You won’t be expected to be at the night activities if you choose not to.

Vice President Peichel – The schedule will run from 9:30 AM – 6:30 PM on Saturday and 10-3 P.M. on Sunday.

C. Advisor’s Report

Advisor Esch – I just have a quick thing.  I read the resolution that you passed about representing the schools in a respectful manner.  The faculty was very pleased.

Advisor Terhaar –I’d like to commend Senator Xiong on her key note speech that she gave to a national organization.  It was a proud moment for CSB/SJU.

An Economic Impact Study is in the process of being completed in regards to the four year on campus living experience CSB/SJU is attempting to implement.  We are trying to show what the impact on the city would be.  Landlords are a little upset and concerned about the situation.  When I get the report done I will get it out to you.  I think it’s important to understand the statistics about on and off campus student living.

Campus safety issue – The first message was sent out last week.  It didn’t state CSB/SJU, it just stated on campus.  It seemed to work the way it was supposed to.  At any time people can sign up if they haven’t done so yet.  It seems very worth while

D. Executive Board Report (Hauff)

A lot of things that we talked about at our Executive meeting have been talked about already today.  We started off talking about our relations with St John’s.  And we came to great resolutions.  We talked about MAPCS and the mandatory requirements.  We talked about the Tommie/Johnnie game bussing and securities.  Many perspective students and their parents were upset.  We talked about if there are extra busses, who pays for that.  We didn’t get a definitive answer.

E. SJU Senate

We had a report about the Sustainability Commission.  We had a new goal added.  An update from Senator Fredrick was given about teacher evaluations.

Public Relations Representative De Leon – Is MAPCS going to be mandatory for SJU Senate?

SJU Sentate – This will be discussed on Monday.

Trustee Hauff – Will the leadership of your Senate be there?

SJU SENATE – I have a commitment but will attend whenever I can.

F. Student Issues Committee (Martin)

Senator Martin – We have been talking about culinary issues.  Tonight we will be distributing a questionnaire tonight after our meeting.  If any of you can help that would be greatly appreciated.

Senator Fahlstrom – Are we going to give them and pick them up?

Senator Martin – Yes we will be going back around.

Senator Andreasen – Could you give us an explanation of what you plan to do with the data collected?

Senator Gresback – It’s very simple, but time consuming.  We will be plugging them into a statistical program.  Then present our results to Tom who is the Director of Dining.

Senator Andresen – It may be intimidating if we wait by the tables.

Senator Martin – We weren’t planning on standing right by the tables.

Senator Hansen – Students may leave them on their trays.

Senator Xiong – Will this survey be available on line?

Senator Martin – We plan on sending it out to the student body.

G. Comments or Questions

Treasurer Hansen – I have a couple.  I wanted to remind Senators that on Friday we will be attending the Blazer volleyball game.  It is definitely a huge game.  Senators that drove to the retreat meet me after the meeting

Allocations Chair Sperl – For the meeting we only have one appeal.  Three other groups have contacted us.  We told the clubs that by the 26 we want to receive them.  But they do have the two weeks to appeal the allocations.  I will e-mail out the revised budget that they are looking to receive funding for.

Trustee Hauff – I just wanted to talk a little bit about the Chapter Alumni fundraiser.  We will be doing this tomorrow and Friday.  If you will promote it that would be appreciated.  We will be in Gorecki from 9-4.  We are always looking for more help.  It is not required but we would like the help if you are able to.

IV. New Business

A. Motion to allocate up to $300 towards Blazer volleyball playoff tickets for CSB students. (K. Hansen)

Motion made by Treasurer Hansen and seconded by Senator Gresback.

Treasurer Hansen – Yield to Trustee Hauff.

Trustee Hauff- If CSB could be taken out of motion.

Treasurer Hansen – I am looking for $300 dollars to purchase tickets for the Blazer volleyball game.  We are ranked 16 in the nation.  I think it would be great if we could purchase 100 tickets.

Public Relations Representative De Leon – Were the tickets for both CSB/SJU students last year?

Vice President Peichel –To give a quick background:  Two years ago, SJU funded money to let Johnnies into the football game.  Our goal is to support Blazer athletics.  The spirit is to support.  This way we are not limiting it to one particular student.  Last year it was not specified.

Senator Andreasen – I’m in full support of this motion.  I think it’s great to show support.

0910-022 Motion to allocate up to $300 towards Blazer volleyball playoff tickets for students.

Motion passes with a vote of 15-0-1

V. Announcements

A. The next Saint John’s Senate meeting is on Monday, October 26.  Senators Fahlstrom and Hauff will be attending on behalf of St. Ben’s Senate

VI. Adjournment

Motion to adjourn the meeting made by Treasurer Hansen and seconded by Allocations Chair Sperl.  Meeting adjourned at 5:47 P.M.

Respectfully Submitted

SBS Executive Assistant,

Chelsea Haugen
