Mai Chong Xiong's Platform

Hello, my name is Mai Chong Xiong, currently a first-year and is running for the Cultural Affairs Board (CAB) Representative position in the St. Ben’s Senate (SBS).

 I understand that this position requires effort and dedication that I am willing to give. The SBS needs a committed CAB Representative that will be able to speak on behalf of CAB and promote their activities as well as being a liaison between the two. In order to do so, I know that organizational and communication skills are definitely needed for this position. As a CAB Representative, I will make it my priority to address any issues that CAB may have and meet with the appropriate administrators to solve it. Also, from my experiences here, I know that I can contribute a substantial amount to the Intercultural Development Council and ensure all of our students of diverse backgrounds are well adjusted to our campus.

As a person of a diverse cultural background, I know that I am suitable for this position because through my past leadership experiences, I have been able to address the needs of a growing minority population and made substantial efforts to make a difference. In high school, I was among the few students who initiated and led the development of an Asian Club because we saw that our suburban school was growing more diverse and needed different resources to involve the ever changing student body. We created an Asian Club, and I was Vice President the first year the club was initiated and President the following year. Through that, I have experiences working with students and administrators to resolve any issues that needed to be addressed. These experiences have taught me skills I can now utilize when I am given the opportunity to be a CAB Representative.
