Hello, my name is Junell Pedro and I am a freshman. I am majoring in Pre-Med Biology and aspiring to the position of Women’s Issues Representative. I believe that I am well suited for the job because it affords me the opportunity to use my knowledge and that of others to inform, educate and empower the women of the College of St. Benedict. I have always been interested in becoming a spokes person for women due to the fact that so many are too timid to voice their own concerns and needs which leads to them going unnoticed in the community. In addition, the position would allow me to be able to connect and build lasting relationships with more members of the College of St. Benedict community.
Women’s Issues Representative is a challenging however rewarding position and I am fully aware of this. I have always been industrious and dedicated to any cause that I choose to champion. I am willing to explore all options and use all available resources in order to accomplish the tasks encountered while working with other board officials and the women of St. Benedict. I understand that the position requires co operation with many different clubs and departments in order to develop great programs geared towards the women of our community. With this in mind, I am enthusiastic and willing to engage in positive dialogue in order to produce cohesive programs that will impact and change how our women awareness and treatment of themselves. I am hoping to raise consciousness in areas such as health and wellness, and sexual and social behavior.
I have previous experience as a leader because I have been involved in coaching Junior Girl’s High School Soccer and also leading a women’s Gold Hiking Team in the Governor General’ Youth Award. I have served as editor and chief photographer on my High School Year Book Committee. In addition I have been a Doctor’s Assistant on a Women’s Aids ward and shadowed social workers dealing with cases of Domestic Violence and Child Abuse. I am currently a Research Assistant which has made me versatile and given be secretarial and leadership experience. I believe my flexibility and range is what makes me well suited for this job. I am an excellent listener and this skill will allow me to meet the needs of the women I am representing in an efficient manner.
My eagerness and enthusiasm will keep me focused and excited about my job. However, my passion for empowering and strengthening women will keep me motivated to develop ways to foster sisterhood in our community. I believe that as women we must first take good care of ourselves in order to benefit those around us. If we do not educate ourselves and speak up about the issues that affect us then no one else will. We must set the pace by uniting and assisting each other. I am ready and willing to listen, help and represent all of the women of the College of St. Benedict in order to foster a healthier, wiser and happier community of women.
