Hi, my name is Catie Corken and I think I would be perfect for the Underclass Representative position on the St. Ben’s Senate. I am a first year majoring in elementary education with a focus in Communication Arts/Literature. Now that my first year of college is almost over I would love to get more involved on campus and I think Senate would be a great opportunity for me!
I understand that Senate takes a lot of responsibility and time. I am a very reliable and trustworthy person and I know I would be able to handle everything that comes with this position. I know how to manage my time wisely and get everything done quickly and efficiently. Part of the reason I want to be a teacher is because I love working with other people and learning from them too. I am very creative and organized and would be able to add a lot to the Senate. As the underclass representative I understand that I will have a wide range of responsibilities all while working with the first years and sophomores. For these reasons I would have a direct impact on my class and that is something I would really enjoy.
Because I am a first year, high school does not seem that long ago. I was very involved in organizations that will help me if I am elected. I was on Student Council for three years, acting as secretary my senior year. I chaired many committees like the blood drive and decorations for every spirit week. I worked hard to make sure everyone and everything was kept in order. I was also a member of the National Honor Society, the dance team and worked with the underclassmen as a LINK and PEACE leader. All of these positions required a great deal of responsibility. In addition, I taught Sunday School for 4 years. I continue to baby-sit for a family with 6 young boys where I have really learned to juggle many things at once. Because I have always been a very involved person, I know I will be able to handle the demands of Senate.
I am an outgoing person and I love working with others to try to make a difference. My past experiences have taught me that if you want something enough there is always a way to make change and get it done. I know that I would be great as the underclass representative on the St. Ben’s Senate. I would love to work with other girls from our school and I would love to represent St. Ben’s!
