2 Meeting Report

I wanted to begin my report today by thanking you for all the hard work you put in over the summer and the last couple days.  Wow, we have accomplished so much already.  We have begun to implement new activities and events.  Thank you so much for your hard work.  I have been working on some projects the last couple days.  I toured the new health center.  There is no plan at this point for PR and marketing.  I have called together a group of administrators and other individuals.  I’d like to further inform you of the Kip Fullbeck project- next Friday there is the presentation and also a dinner.  This is an invitation only meal.  I was able to get tickets for every senate member.  It will be held in the BAC Courtyard from 5-6:30 P.M.  I’d like to send around a sign up sheet for opening reflection.  If everyone could sign up that would be appreciated.  I ask that everyone sign up for two meetings.  Finally, your retreat packet information will be e-mailed tonight.  We will be leaving for the retreat at 4:30 on Friday.

Senator Bergeson: Is the SJU senate weekly or bi-weekly?

Q. Advisor’s Report

(Terhaar)

I would like to echo the words that Ashley said.  I commend you ladies.  Over 800 people attended the BBQ.  The rest of the year should be just as positive.  The college is much involved in H1N1 virus.  We are planning it to come to campus.  We have a meeting with off campus on September 1, 2009.  In the past there have only been two options for students who need time off for health reasons or other issues. Students were either enrolled or completely not here at the College of Saint Benedict.   Last spring we did approve a leave of absence as one more option to choose from.  This allows students to take time off without making a crucial decision.

(Esch)

We commend the Faculty here at our institution for their recognition of performance.

R. Allocations Chair Report (Sperl)

Last week I spoke with Trish Doran.  Student activities has been moved. The computer that has formerly been used by the Auditors was also moved.  Trish and I were talking about funding a computer that the Auditors could use.  Maybe buy one from the school.  I have been checking on pricing.  I’m thinking of bringing it forward once I find out the cost.

Senator Gresback - Are there any alternatives?

Allocations Chair Sperl - Only auditors for organizations would use this computer.  If we didn’t purchase one, we would have to run down to computers in Mary commons.  That would be the second option.

Public Relations Representative De leon - Correct me if I am wrong, wasn’t the computer just moved to the new area to student activities area.

Allocations Chair Sperl – Auditors won’t have a place to work on computer in the new place.

S. Saint John’s Senate (Activities and Allocations Chair – Silbernagel)

We gave out ice cream treats to the freshman during orientation.  We are selling last year’s Johnnie t-shirts to the freshman.  We are looking forward to our weekend together at the retreat.

Vice President Peichel - Is it also your understanding that it will be a weekly meeting?

Senator Silbernagel - Yes.

T. Comments or Questions)

Bergeson - I pose this question to everyone.  Will we have a column in the Record?

Martin - If someone can sit on every meeting that would work best.

Public Relations Representative De Leon - Someone is already looking into it.  I am confident there will be someone for that position.  I would rather not disclose her name at this time.

IV. New Business

A. Motion to allocate $500 to the Mike Domitrz “Can I Kiss You” presentation on September 21, 2009. (A. Hansen)

Moved (A. Hansen)

Senator Hansen – I would like to explain a little about the Mike Domitrz presentation.  He is one of the leading experts on relationships.  There will be rollplaying on stage and real life situations that every person could take in.  Individuals are invited to attend a training session.  This presentation will help promote healthy relationships on campus.

Senator Gresback - What other groups do you know who are considering funding this?

Advisor Terhaar - Health promotions coordinator sent out e-mail to all organizations

Gresback - Who are they marketing towards?

Senator A. Hansen – I think it is an extended part of orientation but for everyone.

Senator Gresback - This year it’s not a structured part of orientation I believe.

Advisor Terhaar: This is part of the extended orientation.  Many organizations are contributing.  There will be a training session for leaders and two open sessions at 7 and 9 for all students.

Andreason: I’m in full support of this motion.  This message needs to be heard.  I also wanted to point out, the freshman only heard an alcohol presentation and nothing like this.

B. 0910-007 Passes 16-0
