CSB Summer Housing 2008!

General Information:

All CSB/SJU students living on the St. Ben’s campus this summer will be living in Westkaemper, Gable, or Girgen at the rate of $50.00 per week for each summer resident.  There will also be temporary housing in Dominica until June 7st at the rate of $40.00 per week (this is open on a limited basis for those taking a short summer course, completing student teaching, athletes, national/international students or those preparing for the NClex Exam...).

Please note that there is the possibility of some external construction around the west apartments this summer. Also the power plant staff will be coming through the apartments shortly after school lets out to do maintenance on heating and cooling systems in the apartments.

After everyone is settled into their summer housing, Residential Life will send a summer phone number list via e-mail to everyone in summer housing. There will be many other events and conferences on both the CSB and SJU campuses this summer.  Some of the groups coming to campus will be staying in on-campus housing for part of the summer.  Please be respectful to all people living, working or visiting our campuses this summer.

Who is eligible:

CSB/SJU Students working on-campus and/or taking classes at CSB this summer will have first priority for summer housing. Students taking classes at SCSU this summer will have second priority. Those who will be working off campus will be housed on a first come first serve after those working on campus and taking summer courses. The priority application deadline is April 15th.  After that time all summer housing will be filled on a first come first serve basis until filled for the summer.  Space is limited so please apply early. It also should be noted that people who are staying the whole summer have priority over those that are staying for a portion of the summer.

Summer Housing Contracts will be sent out to you as assignments are made.  You should receive a notice of the status of your summer housing request no later than April 25th, 2008. Your housing contract will be due back to the Residential Life Office within 2 days of receiving your notice of summer housing.  Please note that once you accept a summer housing assignment by returning your contract there will be a $50.00 cancellation fee assessed should you cancel your housing for the term agreed to in the contract.

Where:

On-campus apartments in Westkaemper, Gable, and Girgen.  (Note:  Dominica will be available for those who require temporary housing through June 7th).  All of the apartments used this summer will be 4 person – 2 bedroom apartments. NO SINGLE APARTMENTS OR APARTMENTS WITH SINGLE BEDROOMS ARE AVAILABLE!

Summer Housing Move In:

In order to make the transition to summer housing smooth and easy there are a few things that everyone should know.

  • Every student must be packed and complete a damage and maintenance check of their current housing with their RA by the final day of check out (Friday, May 9th). Failure to do so will result in a $25.00 improper check out fee.  Students will be allowed to remain in their room until they can move to summer housing however we need to check you out before the RA staff departs for the summer.
  • All campus residents will move to their temporary/summer housing Wednesday, May 14th, 2008
Check in times for summer move in will be from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on move in day.

Since there are a few days between check out of your current residence and move into new summer housing, students need to pack up all of their things in their room/apartment as if they were moving out that day and place it in a concise pile making it easier for the RA/CA to check out the residents.

Students do not need to turn in room keys or PO Box Keys at the time of checkout with their RA. Those moving into summer housing on campus will be allowed to stay in their current residence until their arranged day for summer move.

Those whom are living on campus during the summer must turn in their keys from the academic year and their PO Box keys (there will be summer mailboxes assigned and keys will be issued with your summer housing key) by 8:00 p.m. on the day they move into their new summer housing to the Residential Life Office (second floor in Mary Commons). Failure to do this will lead to a $40.00 re-key fee ($25 for room and $15 for PO Key) charged to the student’s account.

Students must move on designated day! Please contact Residential Life if you have questions/concerns regarding this timeline. Please talk to you employer and plan accordingly.

Cost:

$50 per week for each summer resident. The cost for temporary housing will be $40 per week.  Summer Rent will be assessed in the beginning of the summer based upon the dates of your summer housing agreement.   All payments should be sent to the Student Accounts Office.

End of Summer Move Out:

  • Summer housing ends on Wednesday, August 13th, 2008 and all moves need to be completed by 10:00pm, so students need to plan ahead and make arrangements to move out this day. Please be aware: Summer Events run through August 10th and Athletes and RAs begin returning on August 13th - you cannot move prior to the 13th and you cannot move after the 13th - you will need to play ahead and if you will be gone during this time period you may need to move out completely and then move back to campus after you return from your travels. Please PLAN ACCORDINGLY!
  • Your summer apartment should be cleaned as you would do at the end of the academic year.  You will be charged accordingly for any damage and/or cleaning that is needed after you vacate the apartment.
  • All summer housing and PO keys will be due by 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 14th (keys not returned by the deadline will be assessed a fee--$25 for housing keys and $15 for PO keys).
  • CSB students who will be living on campus in the fall will move to their academic year housing at this time.
  • You will need to go to the Mary Commons Information Desk between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm to pick up move-in packets for your academic year housing.
  • Those going abroad, living off campus or living at SJU will need to have arrangements made for themselves after August 13th.
