Regina History

This photo is from The Benet, December, 1962.

Regina was the second of the three buildings connected to Mary Commons built. Aurora was built in 1956, the same year Mary Commons was built. Regina was complete in 1963, and Corona was completed in 1969.

The three buildings connected to Mary Commons were given names that were titles of the Virgin Mary
   Aurora = Dawn
   Regina = Queen
   Corona = Crown

1962
July 21: The Chapter voted to accept a government loan and add their share to
   construct the addition of Regina to the Mary Hall Commons complex.
August 17: Opening bids for the construction of the building
August 28: Work began
December 28: Fire broke out in the new construction

1963
Fall: Regina Hall was occupied. The addition of Regina added 150 beds for
   students to occupy.
June 4: Decision on the Mary Hall dormitories; Aurora, Regina, Corona.

There was not a lot of information available on the Regina building at the time of construction. It seemed have been overshadowed by the construction of the Benedicta Art Center, which was being constructed the same year as Regina.

A special thanks to S. Carol and S. Emmanuel from the College Archives as well as
S. Ruth in the Monastic Archives who helped find all this information.
