Internship Opportunities

United States Olympic Committee Student Intern in Lake Placid, New York and Chula Vista, California:

The United States Olympic Committee conducts an internship program for college students that follows the traditional college semesters -- fall, winter/spring and summer. The internship sites are at Colorado Springs, Colo., Lake Placid, N.Y., and Chula Vista, Calif. Positions are either with the USOC or its sport National Governing Bodies (i.e., Archery, Swimming, Volleyball, etc.).

  • Interns live at Olympic Training Centers and eat their meals at the Athletes' Dining Hall 
  • A small stipend is also provided.
  • The program offers internships in the areas of:  broadcasting, journalism, marketing, sports administration, culinary nutrition and sport science (strength and conditioning).
  • To be eligible for the internship program, students must have completed at least two years of college before the start of the internship and be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited United States college or university.

Edge Sports Training Center in Plymouth, MN.  Interns will:

  • Work with strength coaches.
  • Work with athletes in mainly small group and team settings.
  • Help athletes with technique and form.
  • Learn the "Dynamic Warm-up" and eventually lead the warm-up.

Sports Performance Coach (NFL Combine) - Cris Carter's FAST Program. Coral Springs, FL                           

Skills that interns can expect to learn include:

  • Understanding and implementation of speed training techniques
  • Performance measurements for 225-lb bench press test, 40-yd dash with 10- and 20-yd split times, 20- and 60-yd shuttle test, 3 cone drill (L drill), vertical jump and broad jump
  • Strength training program design
  • Functional and sport-specific drills
  • Balance and stability work
  • Understanding and applying the biomechanical analysis of athletes.

National Strangth and Conditioning Association - Internship opportunities at its new, state-of-the-art Human Performance Center  Responsibilities include:

  • Program design and implementation
  • Lifting technique instruction and analysis
  • Injury reconditioning
  • Performance testing
  • Research analysis

Acceleration South Sports Training Center - Hands-on learning will take place in the following areas:

  • Speed Training sessions on the Super treadmill
  • Hockey training sessions on the patented Skating Treadmill
  • Plyometric sessions (including footwork, speed, strength, and power type)
  • Strength Training Sessions
  • Stickhandling and Shooting skill specific sessions
  • Skill specific sessions for other various sports.

Athletic Performance Academy  Position Highlights:

  • Assist the coach and get good experience
  • From June to September
  • Shifts are for 1 ½ hrs each from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Saturday
  • Unpaid Internship
  • Willing to consider working with students for academic credit but do need to talk more about responsibilities

Health and Wellness Department Internship, St. Cloud Area Family YMCA

  • Develop and Practice a variety of skills
  • Practice your skills as a personal trainer with a variety of clients - young, elderly, deconditioned, athletic, etc.
  • Work on developing new programs for the department - fitness incentive programs, nutrition seminars, adult sport leagues, etc.
  • Have the opportunity to work on marketing and promotion for the existing programs or programs being developed
  • Chance to work on special events like the Great River Run, Healthy Kids day or the annual Golf Tournament
  • Assist with MS Water Exercise classes or teach group fitness
  • YMCA gives you a wide view of what you could experience within the Health and Wellness field

Exercise Physiology/Sports Training Internship, HEAT (High Energy Advanced Training) Program at St. Cloud Orthopedic Sports Center:

  • Hands on experience in program orientation, fitness testing, development of periodization programs and exercise prescription
  • Work with athletes of all ages and skill levels
  • Program includes cardiovascular fitness, core stabilization, basic weight lifting, Olympic lifting, plyometrics, treadmill running or skating and sports specific exercises
  • Looking for hardworking, energetic and highly motivated individuals that have willingness to learn about new training concepts

Velocity Sports Performance Coach Internship

This internship is unique as it has a curriculum built into the internship. Interns will prepare for the NSCA’s CSCS exam through assigned readings, lectures, labs, assignments, and the hands-on experience provided by the internship.

The duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the Sports Performance Director and Performance Coaches in implementing a comprehensive athletic performance enhancement program
  • Participating in groups, observing coaches, and assisting in coaching as part of their training
  • Attending coaches’ meetings and assisting with maintaining the facility
  • Completing all assignments in a timely and concise manner

HealthFitness Internship:

HealthFitness and the management team offer rewarding internship opportunities that provide exposure to, or experience in, a wide range of areas, such as:

  • Group exercise class instruction

Internship Program at The Wellness Center at Jones-Harrison

The primary experience of the internship will be working with the residents and community members.  The population consists of people with a wide range of capabilities.  The intern will receive experience working with Alzheimer's / dementia residents, skilled care residents, residents with a history of stroke / CHF / respiratory disease / etc., residents on the rehabilitation wing whose goal is to be independent again, assisted living residents, etc. 

  • Some of the daily tasks consist of:
         - Working one on one with multiple residents at once on their exercise programs, which may include helping and / or transferring residents from machine to machine
         - Fitness assessments and re-assessments, which include balance, flexibility, mobility, and strength testing
         - Evaluating, prescribing, and updating exercise schedules for individuals
         - Programming "keys," adjusting programs, and setting up new programs on the Technogym computer system and
         - Completing proper charting on residents
  • Secondarily the interns will have the opportunity to work with the staff of Jones-Harrison by:
         - Designing and implementing employee incentive programs
         - Preparing and presenting lectures at brown bag lunch seminars
         - Performing fitness assessments, which include: treadmill testing, strength tests, flexibility, body composition with skin fold calipers, and balance
         - Exercise prescription and re-evaluation of exercise programs
         - Teaching various classes i.e. circuit training, abs and back, Ai Chi, etc.
  • Intern will gain knowledge and experience working in a warm water therapy pool with residents, community members, and staff.
  • The atmosphere is a small team setting with a staff of 4 - 5 people, but also working directly and indirectly with the RN's, NAR's, physical therapists, arthritis staff, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, and the rest of the staff at Jones-Harrison.
  • Intern will have the opportunity to attend various types of meetings: departmental meetings, morning meetings about resident status, weekly Assisted Living meetings and care conferences for the residents,
  • The intern will also have the opportunity to work on the marketing aspects of The Wellness Center to the community, residents and staff members.

Availability of Internship and Application Deadlines:
     - Application deadline will depend on the start of the school's semester / quarter
     - 300 hours preferred, but wiling to work around requirements of student
     - Minimum of 20 hours per week required
     - Available for ALL semesters and/or quarters

Other Information
     - Internship is a non-stipend program
     - A resume is required
     - A personal interview is required
     - If accepted we would require a criminal background check, Mantoux screening and attendance at new staff orientation
