MaryAnn Baenninger, Ph.D., became the 14th president of the College of Saint Benedict in August 2004. She has devoted nearly her entire career to higher education, serving as a tenured associate professor in the department of psychology at The College of New Jersey, Ewing, N.J, a faculty member at Philadelphia University in Philadelphia, Pa. and Washington College in Chestertown, Md. Most recently she was a senior staff member of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education in Philadelphia, Pa., a non‑governmental, peer‑based membership association dedicated to educational excellence and improvement through peer‑evaluation and accreditation.
Baenninger received her Ph.D. from Temple University, where she also completed her bachelor’s degree in psychology, summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa.
Baenninger believes in the power of education to expand minds and change lives. Her presidency reflects her trust in the ability of a liberal arts education, built upon the college’s Catholic Benedictine foundation, to educate the whole person and develop exceptional professionals who are challenged to dream of and make possible a better world.
